April 2007

Thus saith a friend. Gave me a few precautions. Funny but well… they are… PRECAUTIONS!
1. Put a chair against the door of the room.
2. Put heavy stuff on the chair. If anyone pushes in, the stuff drop to awake you.
3. Get a Ridsect spray and put it under your bed, near you. Don’t let the housekeeper sees it. (A GOOD housekeeper would.)
4. Put a nail clipper, the one with a separate nail trimmer attached to it in your working bag. Use it as a weapon.
5. Don’t carry handbag, use the backpack to work!
6. Don’t drink the water that you have left in the room earlier. (Never thought of that)
7. Trust no one.
8. Don’t go out at night. (Um. No cybercafe at night?)
9. Use your own towel, pillow case…. (My luggage will be over the limit!)

Many more. Couldn’t remember. No matter how I said that the place is really not as bad as you think (hey, am also trying to convince myself here. hahaha), friends still have not-so-good impression of the place. After all, company usually show you the good, and hide the bad, eh?

I am thankful for all the advices and tips. They have painted, um… an eery picture, but I understand their good intentions. Most importantly, I feel loved, to the extend of babied here.  Hehehe… I am gonna miss all these. *Muah!*

anansi.jpgAnansi Boys, by Neil Gaiman.

Heard of the author for his latest book, Fragile Things, but because I don’t buy hardcover, so I pick up the others ~ Anansi Boys, Smoke and Mirrors (the next book that I am going to read).

Light reading. Funny. Though it touches on supernatural, is not scary. Gave me the feeling that the author was having fun time spinning the tale.

My packing is almost done. If my weighing machine is accurate, then my luggage is 15kg, and my backpack is 5kg. If Air Asia’s website can be trusted, then I can add another 2kg to my backpack. I need to find out a few more details from the ever-so-busy customer service line! *Pout*

I have 3-3/4 books to finish, which I doubt I can finish 1-1/2 of them. I will bring one, The Lonely Planet Story. The heaviest compare to the rest, but I don’t care. It is supposed to accompany me during those lonely nights.

I hope they have good bookstores there. I have searched and found a few. Besides church and NGO activities, books would fill up my indoor time.

“I don’t think you have time to read books,” my granny said.
“Of course I have. What am I going to do after work? Well, I hope I don’t work till 10pm every night. I can’t surf net like here. Sigh. Not sure about the TV programmes. Books would be great. Or you think I should go to the pubs, drink and make some friends, eh?” Think that scared her a bit. Hehehe…

This morning, I went to the clinic … again. Never seems to recover from cough, cold and dry throat since a week ago. So for the first time in my life, I am under the regime of 2 antibiotic per 6 hours interval. The dispenser advised that I took at 6, 12, 6, 12, so that I don’t need to wake up in the middle of the night. Um, but I have to wake up at 6am! I am never an early person. Anyway, this is only for 5 days. I better be healed by then. I might get worse in the new place.

Yesterday, my uncle said, “You sick again?”
“Yeah. Homesick. Already!”

Countdown: 10 days to go.

color.jpgThe Color of Water. A Black Man’s Tribute to His White Mother. Author: James McBride.

It was really a very good read! In brief, it is a true story of a woman, a Jew, married to 2 black men, who happened to die early and left her to care for her 12 kids. And these kids grow up to be professionals and leaders! A mother who had suffered during her childhood and faced lots of troubles to make ends meet after the death of her husbands, but still all ends well. Her friend? Jesus Christ, the Faithful One.

So many things to pack. At least 6 months supplies before my trip home (I hope). And today I found out that I can only check-in 15kg luggage! I dare not weigh my bag. Sigh.

My room is in a mess. Bed with clothes and table with things. I slept on the floor yesterday. I really hate packing. It seems like I will never finish doing it. Sigh.

Countdown: 14 days to go.

Maybe you know… Anyway for the sake of those who don’t. I only found out yesterday.

Don’t use Energizer for clocks. Too powerful. Maybe that is why many of my alarm clocks spoiled! So use other brands e.g. Eveready. This info is verified by a timepiece shop.
